We're granting a temporary extension to the grazing license to the current licensee in the West Belmont – Waitangirua area of the Belmont Regional Park. The area covers 110ha, as shown on the maps on the right, and the license will run until 31 March 2022.
We acknowledge that this appears to be out of step with our intentions in the draft Toitū Te Whenua Parks Network Plan 2020-30 (PNP) to move away from grazing. The plan process needs to be completed and subsequent master planning undertaken for the park. This will determine the final look and feel of the park while incorporating aspects such as managing risks, additional development and restoration options and locations.
The granting of this license is an interim solution to control weeds fire risk until the longer term planning processes, and transmission gulley, are completed.
The licence extension is to be granted pursuant to Section 74 (2) of the Reserves Act 1977.
We intend to offer the licence to the current licensee on the same terms and conditions as contained in the current licence. A copy of this is available on request. Following this feedback gathering process, and to ensure that we comply with the new PNP, we may make some amendments to the licence.
Please fill out the ideas / submission form below to make your submission. If you have any questions please let us know on the questions tab below.
