Greater Wellington is committed to making it easier for ratepayers facing hardship to manage at a difficult time.

We are proposing an amendment to our existing Rates Postponement Policy. This will allow ratepayers to request rates postponement from their local council and have a similar approach taken by Greater Wellington in most circumstances.

To understand more about this proposed change please review the documents under the Documents section on the right of this page.

You can see the relevant rates policies of your local council by clicking on the link below. Note that these links may include various policies associated with rates remissions and postponements by the local council. A rates remission is where the amount of rates payable is reduced. A rates postponement is where payment of rates is deferred until a later date.

Greater Wellington is only reviewing its policy in relation to rates postponements, not rates remissions.

Greater Wellington would like to better support our ratepayers by changing our rates postponement policy to align with each local council in the region. Rates collection can then be done efficiently for both the ratepayers concerned and councils, as Greater Wellington rates charges are invoiced and collected by the local councils of the area on our behalf. Have your say on this policy amendment in this survey.
