Belmont Regional Park is a place many people love for walking, riding, exploring, or simply being out in nature. For some, it’s the landscape behind their homes. It is a backdrop that shapes how this part of the region looks and feels.
A masterplan is being developed to guide our investment priorities in Belmont over the next 50 years. You can help shape this masterplan by letting us know what you think is important for Belmont.

Planning the future of Belmont Regional Park
Together with mana whenua, local communities, park users, and stakeholders, Greater Wellington is developing a long-term spatial plan for Belmont Regional Park.
The masterplan will help guide where future restoration, recreation, and access improvements are prioritised across the park, including:
- recreation, tracks, and trail connections
- park entrances, access, and visitor experiences
- ecological restoration and biodiversity
- open landscapes, views, and heritage features
- investment priorities and park management.
Belmont Regional Park is a large park with a wide range of landscapes and uses. The masterplan will bring these together into a coordinated long-term vision for the park.
This work is guided by Toitū Te Whenua Parks Network Plan 2020-2030, which sets the long-term direction for Greater Wellington’s regional parks. The Belmont masterplan will build on this direction with a more detailed plan for Belmont Regional Park.
Early engagement opportunities
We want to hear from a wide range of people and groups who care about Belmont Regional Park.
We want to hear what people value about the park, what challenges or opportunities exist, and what they would like to see in the future.
To have your say in early engagement:
- the online survey was closed on 1 July 2026
- attend the Lower Hutt community drop-in session on the 20 June 2026, Scouts Hall, Belmont Domain, end of Norfolk Street, Lower Hutt, 1:30pm to 3:30pm
- attend the Porirua community drop-in session on 1 August 2026, Tē Pātē Community Hub, 2 Mentor Lane, Cannons Creek, Porirua, 11am to 2pm as part of the Cannons Creek Predator Free Community Day (a previous event was cancelled due to a severe weather warning).
